Summary: While train, Infernape upgrades his Flame Wheel with Flare Blitz. Kohei spys on Ash thinking he will using the Pokemon he is currently training. However during the battle Ash goes with Noctowl, Donphan, and Gible surprising Kohei. Kohei counters with Shuckle, Lickilicky, and Dusknoir. In the end, Ash advances to the Top 8, his next opponent is Shinji.

I didn't find last weeks battle between Shinji and Jun all that exciting and this week was a little better. I actually expected Ash to use some his Johto and Kanto Pokemon, however he goes with Noctowl (Johto), Donphan (Hoenn), and Gible (Shinn'oh); which is nice to see. However, this episode proves that Ash is one "of those trainers", who solely rely on speed. Also the surprise at the end of the episode took me for a loop, at first I thought it was going to Charizard, but it made more sense for the Pokemon to show up; since it would unbalance if Ash used two fire Pokemon against Shinji. Also looks like Ash will be using 4 of his Shinn'oh Pokemon, along with Pikachu and Galie.
